OCAA Membership Update

Fellow OCAA members,

A couple of weeks ago we sent out an email and posted on our website (ocaa.net) a summary of proposed amendments to the MOU we have been discussing with the county. Those discussions have been completed and the proposed amendments are attached. In summary, the amendments will allow those members with less than three years of service to begin immediately having access to the vacation they accrue instead of having to wait for one year of service to get access to them. The amendments will also allow those members who are in danger of hitting the 480 hour vacation cap in a fiscal year and who still have an annual leave balance the opportunity to cash out vacation instead of annual leave.

For logistical reasons the OCAA board will not be able to do presentations on the amendments at each of the courthouses. However, in addition to the proposed amendments being attached to this email and available on our website, we will conduct two presentations. The first is on Tuesday, May 24, at 12:30 in the library of Building 14 (the Public Defender’s office in Santa Ana). The second is on Thursday, May 26, at 5:30 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors meeting room (Hall of Administration, 333 W. Santa Ana Blvd.). The presentations should not last more than 30 minutes. You will be able to vote on the proposed amendments online for one week beginning on Thursday, May 26.

Once OCAA members vote on the proposed amendments, the Board of Supervisors will need to vote to approve the amendments at a regular meeting before they will go into effect. We hope that this will be done before the end of June.

If you have any questions or concerns about the amendments, please try to attend one of the presentations and/or contact an OCAA board member. As we have noted in a previous email, the OCAA board unanimously believes these amendments are beneficial to our members.
